Creating A Whole New Room With Just A Coat Of Paint

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

There is nothing better, than a fresh coat of paint, to drastically change the appearance of a room in your home. Many use paint as a way to cover up and hind flaws, however it can actually be used to create a whole new look to your room. There is nothing more comfortable and welcoming than a freshly painted room.

When you pick out a color to paint a room, you have to be sure to pick something that you like, but it also needs to fit with your individual style and the style of the room. The great thing about paint is that if you are going to paint one room, it is not very expensive. It is not extremely expensive compared to the huge difference it makes.

It is important that you purchase a high quality paint to ensure that your room will get the look that you desire. Purchasing the most expensive paint is not necessary, as long as the paint you purchase is quality made. If you purchase the cheapest quality paint you will not be happy with the results and you will also have to put on more coats than you originally thought. This can wind up costing you more money than the most expensive paint in the store.

When painting you can do something simple and still make a large difference. Something as simple as white walls and glossy white trim can still make your room look fresh and clean. Flossy white trim makes an excellent contrast for any color that you decide to paint your room.

You can also choose to go a little fancier with your painting and paint each wall in your room with a contrasting color. There are many great ways to create a fancier looking room, such as adding a chair rail and painting it in a contrasting color, make stripes in contrasting color or even painting the top part of your room in a contrasting color. No matter what you do, you can always paint over your creation if you are not happy with the end results.

If you are considering changing your home dcor, one of the easiest things that you can do is give your rooms a new color of paint. Painting can change the look of any room in a home, even Kitchens. For all your home needs visit www.schots.com.au.

Internet Resources That Can Help Your Redecorate Your Home

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

When adding architectural detail to a room, whether it is trim work such as crown molding or chair rails or a built in bookcase, it is important to use quality products and to have a plan for the project ahead of time. It is also important to know what you are doing. It is easy to get access to information in the digital age of the internet.

It is so easy to just get on the internet and search the kind of project you plan on doing. Many times it will detail each step for you and what you have to do in order to complete it the right way. They have excellent advice and many different options for you. Also, you can learn more about what goes together to make it match and where to put what in a room because often that is the hardest part.

The thing that many people have a hard time with is knowing what to buy to make it go together and then where to put the items in the room to make it flow smoothly. The thing that you need to remember is that you really don’t need to make everything match. You can buy certain things from a newer store and pair them with items form a rummage sale and then add in the furniture or paintings that you great aunt left you years ago.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you do not need to fill the room up. Having a few great pieces is much better than just filling up your room with junk just to fill it up. You can pick one or a few pieces to focus on in the room and then use that to work around and fit together other pieces to make it stand out and compiment each other.

Work the look around the texture and comfort of a great rug or an heirloom quality piece of furniture. I would rather have a couple of great looking, quality pieces of furniture and have the room a little more bare than desired, than to fill it with cheaper pieces that are not going to last. Like anything else, you get what you pay for. If it seems like too good of a bargain, there probably is a reason for it.

One of the best places to shop for Outdoor furniture is at www.schots.com.au. They have a wide selection of home renovation merchandise from pavers to lighting.

Opening Up The Floor Plan Of Your Home

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

One way to open the look of a room is to remove any barriers. Sometimes that barrier is a wall or a cabinet and sometimes it is a door. Many older homes are separated room to room by doors. In the old days it was so that you could shut off a part of the house in winter or summer in order to keep whatever part you were staying in more comfortable. So in the winter time, you may stay out of draftier rooms and focus on staying in rooms that have fire places or space heaters. Then you could shut off the other rooms by closing the doors. These days, homes are better insulated and central air conditioners and heaters do a better and more efficient job of heating and cooling.

Most people leave their entire homes open at all times, never shutting off parts of the house. These excess doors are unsightly and annoying. They always seem to be in the way and make the rooms look smaller than they actually are. They take up wall space when they are open and floor space as well. Builders don’t necessarily put doors on every doorway or walkway in a home anymore. Only rooms like bedrooms and bathrooms that need to be shut off once in a while will have doors.

Although French doors on a formal dinning room look very nice, typically your living room, dens, dining room and kitchen do not require any doors. If you want doors on these areas, for whatever the reason, you may want to go with pocket doors as they can close off a room when you want and when open they hide within the wall where no one is able to see them. This is the perfect way to have an open room, without wasting floor or wall space on a door.

The only problem with pocket doors is that they are a pain to install, especially in pre-existing structures. If you install them during the new building process, they are a breeze and are easy to install. If you do it during a remodel, you might be in for a tougher job than you bargained for.

When installing your picket sliders you need to make sure that the space inside your wall is just right. You need to not only have enough space for the door to be completely inside in the wall, but you need to be careful just how far inside the wall your door goes. If the door slides to far into the wall you will not only have a large gap in the entry way, but you may not be able to ever close the door up again.

Doors, are a way to close off an area of your home or provide you with extra privacy. However, when you are looking to create a more open space you may want to replace them with a sliding door. Whatever your home home renovation needs are log onto www.schots.com.au.

Giving Your Home A Fresh New Look

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Making your kitchen the heart of your home is important. There are a lot of ways to do this. You need to make sure that when you are doing all of these updates though, you are watching to make sure you are keeping the kitchen functional and it is serving the purpose that it is supposed to. Also you want the room to flow and be able to move around while cooking and hanging out with family and friends.

Wall color is often what most people see first when they walk into a room. The right color can enhance the dimensions of a room, while the wrong color can make the room feel almost claustrophobic. Since the kitchen is a room where a lot of activity takes place, such as cooking and washing up dishes, a brighter color will energize the space and make the room feel light and airy, which is a great quality in a room that is so heavily used. Darker colors like navy blue and hunter green act as appetite suppressants, and while that is great for the waistline, it does not do much for a family meal or dinner party. Colors in the red and yellow families encourage appetites, which may be why \”Kitchen Yellow\” is such a popular color for this room. More neutral colors such as pale greens and beiges are great to create an airy space that can be dressed up with colorful accessories.

Kitchen accessories need to be functional but stylish enough to be seen everyday. Small appliances like toasters, blenders, and microwaves should all be the same color if they stay on the countertops all the time. If you have a stainless steel fridge, oven, and/or dishwasher, it is nice to carry the silver tones over to your smaller kitchen items as well. Otherwise keeping the smaller items in harmony with each other is optimal, such as all white or a single brighter color like red.

The linens don\’t have to be the same color, sometimes they look better if you make them colors that complement each other. You can use two or even three colors that go together and tie in to make the room look great. This makes it look cleaner and more put together.

The smallest touches can make your kitchen feel more welcome and add a little bit more warmth. Candles and even pictures in your home and kitchen can make it less cold and people will want to hang out in there with you while you are cooking and baking and having a great time.

Home decor is a must to everyone in making their home comfortable for friends. Fireplaces are a good way to warm up a room.

The First Thing Everyone Will Notice Is Your Front Entrance

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

If you are looking to make you home more inviting and increase its curb appeal the first place that you should start with is the front entry and entry path. The front of your home is the only thing that those passing by see, and the first impression for the visitors that come into your home.

A coat of paint and a few other ideas can make a nice change in a drab entryway. One thing that I don\’t agree with is that a front door needs to be some crazy color to stand out. Painting the front door bright red or orange or some crazy green is not necessary. A nice complimentary color to the main color of your house should do just fine. Browns and tans may be a bit boring, but they look just fine on the front door if there are some nice complimentary items to offset it. Just because you don\’t need the front door to be a bright, obscene color doesn\’t mean that you can\’t add some color to the front door.

Some potted plants or flowers by your front door can make a wonderful difference if you are looking to add color to your entryway. There are many wonderful plants that you can place by your front entrance, whether you choose a hanging basket or a plated plant. Plants are also great since they are usually changed out when the seasons turn, therefore every few months your entryway will have a new look. Once you have decorated with plants you can then move onto the door hardware. A new, high quality door knob set will not only provide you with better protection, it can also add a classy look to your entryway.

Door hardware is another place on your home that you don\’t want to skimp. You need to buy, and you will want to buy quality hardware. Remember, like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. Besides the door hardware, you can make a simple upgrade on the entrance lights.

Most homes have an outside light beside the door. Houses usually have at least one fixture, most homes have one on either side of the door. There are so many different styles and looks to choose from, it could be difficult to make a decision. Another nice thing about these lights is that they are pretty simple to change, the wiring is already done and a few simple steps are needed. Just be sure to disconnect the power before doing any electrical work.

kitchen renovation can be a tiresome job, especially when you are working on a fixed budget. If you visit www.schots.com.au you will find everything much simpler, as we offer a wide variety of home items from floor tiles to lighting.
