Good Advice For Those Shopping For Carpeting, Tile Or Hardwood

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Is your carpeting dull, lack luster and well past it’s prime? Are you living with chipped tiles in the kitchen? Ashamed to have friends over because of the embarrassment your floors cause you? Maybe you’re envious of the brand new floor your neighbor had installed and how it transformed their kitchen?

When flooring is concerned you will find you have many options. Too many for some. Which makes it hard to decide and easy to go around in circles while trying to decide. Plus since you will be living with the choice for years you want to get it right the first time.

Let’s try to make it easy to give your floor a face lift.

Getting a new carpeting that lays down a sea of color from wall to wall can be exciting. You likely want to go with a nylon. Mid grade should be good enough. All the more so provided you go with the pad upgrade. Since it’s the pad that will determine how long lasting the carpet is and how long it retains it’s fresh new look

Then there’s the classic beauty of wood. You can choose a solid wood installation or you might consider one of the newer products like engineered hard wood. Gleaming laminate flooring is another way to go. Complete with a shiny prefinish it will run you less than solid wood and likely be easier to keep looking sharp.

You’ll find there are more choices that go well beyond traditional oak or pine too. Some like the greener options like bamboo. Others prefer exotics or African hardwoods. Of course you should expect to pay more for some of these imports too.

Ceramic tile is ideal for kitchen and bathroom flooring. Besides being durable, they’re stain-resistant and so cleaning is never a problem. The choice of colors is vast. You can go for a more natural look, go bold, or pick something that adds richness to your floor.

If you are watching your pennies then you can’t go wrong with vinyl. It is easy to install, easy to clean, long lasting and available in a host of different styles and patterns. You can lay down a solid color or opt for eye pleasing patterns. Vinyl comes in sheets or tiles. Some really appreciate the no wax finishes available anymore.

Then too any of these can always support an area rug. Which you can use to tie the room together or just as an accent. And area rugs are easier to change to freshen up a room without replacing the underlying flooring.

Replacing dated flooring be it carpet, vinyl or wood won’t be cheap. But it’s the best way to add sophistication and elegance to your home. Leaving you to enjoy the newly installed beauty for years to come.

According to author and vacuum buff, Aiden Mundt, a Miele vacuum cleaner should be on the top on your list if you’re looking for quiet bagless vacuums. While a Dirt Devil bagless vacuum cleaner can be a good substitute too. For more information on other popular models check out the exhaustive reviews found at AskTheVacuumGuy.com.
